I was very prepared for my unemployment benefits expiration date.

I lost my job because of underperformance three years ago. I was very devastated because as a single parent, I did not have anywhere else to get some money to feed my two children. My husband died three years before then, leaving me as the sore bread winner of the family. However, my boss was very kind. He directed me on how I was going to get some unemployment benefits and some grants to advance my skills, so that I could stand a chance to get another employment sooner. ‘how do unemployment benefits work’, I asked him. I needed to be very sure so that I could be prepared when the time came when I could no longer get the benefits. Since my application was meant to expire after three years, I registered for training immediately. I was going to spend six months in school, polishing up my skills, and after that, I was sure to get another employment. That was what happened. I am now working for another company, in a higher rank than I was in my former company. I only received unemployment benefits for eight months.
